Feasibility Studies
Description (Architectural & Structural)
The hospital site consists of two main buildings; the
hospital building and the doctors' residence. The latter is
separated from the main hospital building
(SEE SITE
PLAN). Floor height is 3.5m
including the service zones above false ceilings, except in the
mechanical rooms where the floor-to-ceiling height is 5m.
-
The slab is a deck system, i.e., corrugated metal
deck + R.C. (light reinforcement) total (20) cm (nominal)
(SEE Typical Section at Hospital's Roof).
-
The columns are steel I-section 30x20 cm.
protected by fire resistant boards to make the outer dimensions
of the columns an average 45x55 cm.
-
The wall thickness is 25x12.5 cm. for brick walls
and 6 cm for partitions used to divide spaces. Concrete walls 20
– 30 cm thick exist at lift shafts, mechanical zones, X–ray and
operating theater departments. The foundations are almost all
separate footing--no excavation has been done to inspect the
foundations as there is no major evidence of heaving or
settlement of soil, except in part of the operating theatre
zone.
-
No evidence of structural damage due to total or
partial settlement of the foundation had been detected.
-
The building has no structures below the N.G.L.
such as basements or semi-basements, except pits for mechanical
and sanitary purposes.
-
No major damage has been found in structural
areas near the elevators and staircase zones. Exceptions are
damaged finishes and electrical components of the lifts.
-
Finally, to provide a complete description and
damage assessment of all the structural and non–structural
architectural finishes and elements, see the following tables:
